According to 9gag, doctors in India were all shocked with the amount of hair they successfully removed from the stomach of a 17-year-old girl after an operation. The girl was identified as Sweety Kumari, she underwent a six-hour operation which was led by Dr. GN Sahu. As per the doctor, she is suffering from Rapunzel syndrome which explains why 6.8kg of hairball was found inside her stomach after she complained of stomach pains.

Rapunzel syndrome, named after that long-haired gorgeous girl in fairytales, is an intestinal condition in which a person compulsively ingests their own hair. They might not be aware that they are suffering from this condition.

In Kumari’s case, the doctors assumed that she might have been suffering from the said condition for many years already because of the huge amount of hair found in her stomach which is very alarming.

The hair stuck in her stomach had no way of getting out which was why they built up through the years of consumption. This building up of hairballs can cause nausea, bloating abdominal pain, and vomiting.

As for Kumari, she was still lucky that her condition was found out before it got worse and that the necessary procedures were done to remove it. She is now recovering after the successful surgery. She even pledged that she will now stop eating her hair to prevent future hair build up.
