Isang asteroid na kasinlaki raw ng “Great Pyramid of Giza” ang maaaring tumama sa Earth sa darating na May 06, 2022, ayon sa National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Ayon sa “inquirer.net,” “Despite the one in 3,800 odds – a measly 0.026% chance” na pagtama ng isang asteroid sa mundo, ang maaari raw maging “worst-case scenario” ay maihahalintulad sa isang eksena sa mga “apocalypse movie” o kaya naman ay mas malala pa, ani ng NASA sa “The Daily Express” noong November 16, 2019.

Kapag tumama raw ang “city-killer” na asteroid, na ni-label bilang “JF1”, sa mundo, ang “impact” daw nito ay “equivalent” sa 230 kilotons ng TNT. Labinlimang (15) beses daw itong mas malakas kaysa sa atomic bomb na tumama sa Hiroshima noong 1945, na siyang sumira sa buong lungsod na may 15 kilotons na puwersa.

Ayon sa naturang ulat, “Even if the asteroid was to avoid civilization and hit ‘the remotest part of the Pacific Ocean,’ the impact would still be powerful enough to cause devastating tsunamis and ‘nuclear winter.’”

Pagkakalkula pa nga ng mga siyentista, “the massive asteroid [would] be around a whopping 420 feet across, or around 130 meters in diameter.”

Tintutukan ngayon ng NASA JPL ang nasabing asteroid sa pamamagitan ng “Sentry,” na inilarawan bilang “a highly automated collision monitoring system that continually scans the most current asteroid catalog for possibilities of future impact with Earth over the next 100 years.”
