‘Kimi No Nawa’ is (still) officially getting a live-action adaptation
Your name…?
Per Deadline, 2016 breakout anime hit ‘Kimi No Nawa’ (English: ‘Your Name‘) is officially getting the live-action treatment by Paramount Pictures and J.J. Abram’s studio ‘Bad Robot‘.
ICYDK, or been living under a weeb-less rock, ‘Kimi No Nawa’ centers around two teenagers that can mysteriously swap bodies on any given day. Without giving away too many spoilers, it’s a real tearjerker that’s launched Japanese anime worldwide to the tune of $303M.
Despite the project being in hiatus for a while, we’re officially set to see Cannes’ ‘Munyurangabo’ Lee Isaac Chung helming the project after ‘500 Days Of Summer‘ director Mark Webb dropped earlier this year.
Details of the upcoming live adaption are scarce, but the first draft of the live film was apparently planned to have a ‘Western viewpoint‘ on the original plot. So we’re assuming it’ll be set in New York rather than Tokyo, and [spoiler] instead of [spoiler].
Despite the original Western takeover, we could see Chung’s new direction taking more inspo from its Asian roots.
Either way, let’s hope the magic’s still there
