Liza Soberano got warned about dying after speaking at a webinar
That escalated quickly
In another episode of ‘0 to 100’, Liza Soberano just got warned about the possibility of dying by a military official after speaking at a webinar held by the Gabriela Women’s Party.
In a statement published on the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), Lieutenant General Antonio Parlade Jr. asked Liza to cease ties with Gabriela, or else suffer the fate of a deceased activist associated with the party.
‘Let us not red-tag Liza Soberano. It’s not fair to her. She is merely supporting advocacy for women’s rights. She has to be protected in the exercise of her rights. Is she an NPA? No, of course not. Not yet’.
‘Liza Soberano, there’s still a chance to abdicate that group. If you don’t, you will suffer the same fate as Josephine Anne Lapira‘. Per CNN Philippines, the 22-year-old Lapira died from an encounter with gov’t troops in 2017.
Catriona, who has been vocal with gov’t issues on social, was also included in the warning.

As a small recap, Liza spoke on Gabriela’s webinar about the issues of violence against women and gender-based struggles. She talked about getting rape remarks on social media, the fear of being catcalled, and being judged on how she dresses.
It might just be us, but none of those topics merit the threat of possibly being killed as a suspected member of the New People’s Army. It seems like a bit of an overkill (a word we’ve seen a lot lately).
For their part, Malacañang says that they see Parlade’s statement as advice born out of concern, while respecting Liza and Catriona’s respective advocacies.
