MMDA’s Pialago apologizes for letting her empathy pass away

ICYMI, MMDA Spokesperson Celine Pialago earned the ire of the Internet over the weekend when she downplayed the plight of detained activist Reina Mae Nasino and her recently deceased daughter as a ‘drama serye’.

The funeral of Baby River garnered pvblic attention for its seemingly overkill protocols, which included dozens of heavily-armed personnel, an entire police convoy, and the reluctance to unhandcuff Reina even during the last rites.

Pialago urged those who sympathize with Reina to first study the reason for the latter’s detention, adding that not all jailed mothers are granted the same privilege of attending the funeral of their children.

‘Masyado ninyong ginagawang pang drama serye sa hapon ang paghihinagpis niya. Tigilan niyo!’, read the post.

Fast forward to today, Pialago has kinda apologized for her statements, per DZMM Teleradyo.

We’re using the word ‘kinda’ here because, while Pialago acknowledges it’s a dick move to label a grieving mother as dramatic, she remains firm that the strict protocols at the funeral were justified.

‘Kung mag-apologize po ako sa salita na ‘drama serye’, sa paghihinagpis niya bilang isang ina, I’m sorry. But for who you are, kung sino ka, kung bakit ka maraming security, that I won’t apologize’.

Pialago last made headlines for declaring victory over transport groups and their protest strikes concerning the government’s jeepney modernization program.
