Oscar Isaac could soon be our next MCU superhero
Yes, please
Per Variety, Oscar Isaac could possibly be our next Avenger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Star Wars star is in talks to play as the vengeful anti-hero ‘Moon Knight’ in a new series under the streaming platform, Disney+. The synopsis reads:
‘Moon Knight tells the story of Marc Spector, an elite soldier, and mercenary who decides to fight crime after he becomes the human avatar of Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon’.
In the comics, the character bears similarity to Batman, in the sense that they’re both rich businessmen who use their resources to exact vengeance on criminals. But while Bruce Wayne is motivated by the deaths of his parents, Spector sees his crusade as penance for crimes he committed as a mercenary.
Moon Knight also suffers from multiple personality disorder and is seen as a bit unhinged by other heroes. He alternates between three personas to conceal his identity.
In case the deal pushes through, this would be Isaac’s second foray into Marvel territory, previously having starred as the titular antagonist in X-Men: Apocalypse. He is also set to star in Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptation of Dune, which also stars Timothee Chalamet.
Oscar Isaac definitely has the looks (that beard has to be a superpower), the charm (please see his WIRED interview), and the acting chops to portray a conflicted, yet slightly less intense MCU version of the hero. Here’s hoping he gets the part.
