PH’s close neighbor, Taiwan, now holds the longest streak for zero COVID-19 cases

Sana ol

While we’re all still under the now 229-day lockdown, our close neighbor Taiwan has officially achieved a record-breaking 200 days without a single COVID-19 local case.

The achievement comes after swift action by Taiwan President, Tsai Ing-wen. As early as December 31 of last year, the country was already screening passengers before the virus reached international shores.

At the very first sign of the virus reaching Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen also launched 124 measures to protect the country given its proximity to Wuhan.

With a population of over 23 million, Taiwan has since only had 553 confirmed cases and 7 deaths since the pandemic broke out in January. The feat has made them more sufficient than other COVID-19 successful countries, such as New Zealand and Vietnam.

Aside from early prevention, Taiwan has also been pretty strict with their quarantine rules, fining a whopping NT$1million (PHP 1.6M) for violators.

However, they’ve also been consistent in providing meals and grocery services for its citizens – going as far as creating a Line Bot to make isolation feel just a little less lonely.

How are we doing, PH?
