‘Resident Evil’ film reboot reveals its cast
Did they get it right?
Per Deadline, ‘Resident Evil’ is getting a reboot that will reportedly be more faithful to the original, horror-themed feel of the first two titles in the long-running video game franchise.
The new iteration, which is set in 1998 Raccoon City, features Robbie Amell (The Babysitter) as Chris Redfield, Kaya Scodelario (Maze Runner) as Claire Redfield, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon Kennedy, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, and Neal McDonough (Arrow) as William Birkin.
The plot will see a far departure from the original Milla Jovovich-led movies, which were more action-oriented and followed a completely original character named Alice.
As teased by the reboot’s writer and producer Johannes Roberts, he felt that a grounded approach about a ‘dying American town’ would be more ‘relevant and relatable’ to today’s audience. Cue connections to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
‘With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them’, said Roberts.
As of writing, there is no word yet on a release date. In other related news, Netflix is also trying their hand in a new Resident Evil series, which will be more action-packed similar to the original films.
