Saving Sally drops on Netflix this October
Freaking-finally
2016 was the year when the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) decided to try something different. Instead of the usual inane, cash-grab flicks, MMFF opted to screen films with… substance, with entries such as Die Beautiful, Sunday Beauty Queen, and my personal fave, Saving Sally.
And while this format didn’t stick due to the less-than-stellar overall gross at the box-office, it nonetheless provided exposure to local projects that had the balls to try something unique.
Saving Sally, in particular, stood out for its vision to be a live-action animated film. The story follows comic book artist Marty (Enzo Marcos) who pines for her friend (Sally) as they live in a world brought to life by the former’s colorful imagination.
The film took an arduous 10 years to make, but went on to gross PHP 27 million at the box office while opening to a positive critical reception.
Fast forward to today, Saving Sally is once again gaining the exposure it deserves, as Rocketsheep Studio reveals that it will soon debut on Netflix on October 15th. Even better is that it’s also expected to get an international release.
‘It should be available all across Asia & quite possibly Europe as they took our French subtitles’, reads the caption.
And while we too are disappointed with the clear lack of a monster penis (watch the film to get the reference), here’s a big ‘Huzzah!’ to filmmakers unafraid to stretch the confines of local cinema.
Quietly coming to Netflix on Oct. 15 is Saving Sally :_)It should be available all across Asia & quite possibly Europe…
