Bummer: Lizzie McGuire reboot isn’t happening anymore

2020 ain’t pulling any punches

Remember the much simpler times of December 2019, when we were all hyped by the Lizzie McGuire reboot announcement to usher in the new decade? Then 2020 happened – and just like everything else, even that prospect went to crap.

Taking to socials to drop the sad news, Lizzie McGuire star Hilary Duff shared that the supposed reboot officially ‘isn’t going to happen‘ anymore.

‘I know the efforts and conversations have been everywhere trying to make a reboot work but, sadly & despite everyone’s best efforts, it isn’t going to happen,’ she wrote.

She continues that ‘I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves’.

Though Duff didn’t give full context on the cancellation, it could be linked to ‘Lizzie McGuire’s original showrunner Terri Minsky being fired by Disney due to ‘different creative directions’ back in January.

Production has also halted amidst the pandemic, leaving Disney scrambling for a new creative head. On top of that, Duff also publicly requested the new series be streamed on Hulu rather than Disney+ to cater to a more mature audience.

While it’s a complete bummer that we won’t see what the McGuire fam has been up to this past 15 years later, Duff notes that this news is classic 2020.

‘I’m very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars just didn’t align. Hey now, this is what 2020s made of.’

Maybe in another life
