ICYMI: Ylona Garcia finally debuts with 88rising

Following the cancellation of ‘Asia Rising Forever’ back in May, Ylona Garcia stans were left wondering when they’ll get to see the Fil-Aussie beaut debut her collab with 88rising.

After all, Ylona is no stranger to producing legit, if not underrated, bops. What better way to finally get the well-deserved nod than to partner with the Asian-American label, which had also given justice to other local acts such as Kiana V and Fern Tan via their all-Filo collective, PARADISE RISING.

Fast forward to December and the wait is finally over. Ylona delivered at 88rising’s Double Happiness Winter Festival last Dec 3, flaunting an ‘angelic performance’ of her single ‘Spilt Milk’ and a cover of Ariana Grande’s ‘Winter Things’.

Our only complaint? ‘Walk in My Timbs’, our absolute fave, was nowhere to be found.

The year-end celebration saw other global acts, such as NxWorries (Anderson .Paak, Knxwledge), Chungha, 88rising’s very own Stephanie Poetri, Dumbfoundead, and PARADISE RISING’s Kiana V, Fern Tan, Leila Alcasid, Jason Dhakal, and Massiah.

Overall, it’s always a treat to see our local artists on the international stage. With any luck, the world might finally realize what all of us knew all along: Filo music deserves to be heard.
