Kirsten Dunst, Alfred Molina, Emma Stone are returning for ‘Spider-Man 3’

In what seems to be slowly becoming a reunion special, it seems that Marvel is bringing back key actors from past Spidey movies for ‘Spider-Man 3’.

The Hollywood Reporter first confirmed that Alfred Molina, who played Doctor Octopus in 2004’s Spider-Man 2, is set to reprise his role. Per Collider, we can now add Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone, who played Tobey Maguire’s Mary Jane and Andrew Garfield’s Gwen Stacy respectively, into the mix.

According to the report, the only casting still left unsure is Emma Stone’s, only because the actress is rumored to be pregnant. The recent development all but confirms the exploration of the Spider-Verse in Tom Holland’s third solo film as the web-slinger.

Initial signs included the return of Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange and Jamie Foxx as Electro. The latter notoriously spoiled his casting in an Instagram post, which also happened to feature three Peter Parkers, before eventually taking down said post.

Touching on the Spider-Verse has also proven to be a successful venture for Sony, who previously released an animated film version to critical and fan acclaim. A sequel is slated for an April 8, 2022 release.

The still-untitled Spider-Man 3 will see the return of cast members Zenday, Jacob Batalon, and Marisa Tomei, as well as director Jon Watts, who also helmed Homecoming and Far From Home. The film is expected to drop on Dec 17, 2021.
