88rising is dropping a TV series about Asian-American culture

More huge ventures

Per Deadline, Asian American label 88rising has penned a first-look deal with Sony Pictures TV to develop upcoming big-screen film and TV projects.

Given their ties with Asian-American music and culture, the label’s initial project is apparently a scripted TV series centered around the global impact of Asian and Asian-American culture.

‘Our company was founded on the goal of providing more authentic representation of Asian and Asian Americans and giving them a platform and an opportunity to be at the center of stories,’ 88rising CEO Sean Miyashiro shared in a statement.

‘We are thrilled to expand our work and vision to television with the support of Sony to continue to make content that we want to make.’

Other film projects with Sony also include a K-pop stan culture film titled ‘We Stan’ and a still-untitled film featuring Rich Brian, or Brian Immanuel in real life.

ICYDK, 88rising was founded back in 2015 and has since skyrocketed their brand with members such as Rich Brian, Joji, NIKI, Stephanie Poetri, and more. They’ve also hosted the annual Head in the Clouds festival, dubbed as the ‘Asian Coachella‘.

Meanwhile, Sony TV executive vice president Glenn Adilman mentioned that the company is ‘incredibly impressed with all that 88rising has achieved in music, media and storytelling.’
