Rowan Atkinson says playing Mr. Bean is ‘stressful and exhausting’

Major props for honesty

Everyone’s fave mute funny man, Rowan Atkinson AKA Mr. Bean, has kept us laughing for many years, but like many of our childhood heroes, he has to throw in the towel someday – and that’s perfectly alright, TBH.

Speaking with UK’s Radio Times, the 66-year old actor revealed that he’s long been ready to leave the beloved character behind, stating that the pressure and responsibility have made for a heavy portrayal.

‘I don’t much enjoy playing him… The weight of responsibility is not pleasant. I find it stressful and exhausting, and I look forward to the end of it.’

It’s easier for me to perform the character vocally than visually,‘ Rowan explained, as he’s currently working on a full-length Mr. Bean animated movie as of writing.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Rowan shared his readiness to leave the quirky persona behind, as he’s been talking about retiring from the role as early as 2012.

‘The stuff that has been most commercially successful for me — basically quite physical, quite childish — I increasingly feel I’m going to do a lot less of,” Atkinson had shared.

Running from 1990 to 1995, the ‘Mr. Bean‘ live-action sitcom gained critical acclaim thanks in part to Rowan’s comedic timing and spot-on portrayal. The franchise also dropped a 130-episode animated series back in 2002 – you know the one.

Meanwhile, there’s no word just yet when the upcoming Mr. Bean film will drop.

One more time, for the road
