Applying for jobs via TikTok could soon be a possibility
TikTok resumes
TikTok, as presently constructed, is already a realm full of possibilities. It can be an educational tool, a spotlight for amazing talents, or just an excuse to annoy the crap out of your friends. Now, the social media platform is adding another service to its belt: job hunting.
According to an insider scoop by news outlet Axios, TikTok is currently working on a ‘recruitment channel’ that will allow its users to apply for companies looking for candidates for their job openings. True to the app’s theme, applicants can send TikTok video resumes instead of the ho-hum traditional ones. Think of it as Linkedin, but for Gen Zs.
The idea of the format takes inspo from ‘elevator pitches’ – the challenge of finding a creative way to ‘sell’ your talents in a limited amount of time. The job search feature also won’t be housed within TikTok itself, but rather, on a separate web page that can be clicked on the app.
While the program is in its very early stages, TikTok is reportedly testing the feature with several beta companies, while a couple of big brands have been approached to take part in the initiative.
Social media apps branching out beyond their initial services isn’t uncommon. ICYDK, Facebook has a job search feature too. So the next time your ‘rents scold you for spending too much time on TikTok, just tell them you’re prepping the resume of the future.
