This mayor will reward cows to residents who get vaccinated
With vaccine hesitancy still present in their town, a local mayor gets creative with his effort in encouraging residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
San Luis town Mayor Jayson Sagum will be using cows as a raffle prize for residents who will get at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The raffle will commence once vaccine supply is available in July, as per ABS-CBN News.
A photo posted at the Municipality of San Luis Pampanga’s official Facebook page presented the details of the initiative. Dubbed as Baka Para sa Bakuna, the raffle will last from July 2021 until June 2022. San Luis residents will get a chance to bring home one cow per month.
The photo also contained details on the requirements for interested participants. It also seeks sponsors who can donate a cow worth PHP 30,000.
According to CTV News, Sagum shared that among the initial prizes they had in mind were cash, food packs, and jewelry. However, the decision of giving away cows seemed more appropriate since their town’s community is committed to rice, duck, and fish farming.
‘For us to attain our goal, we have to think of a strategy. And we know Filipinos like a game of chance,’ said Sagum said.
