A couple broke up after 123 days of being handcuffed together
Out of all the ways to save a relationship, it probably wouldn’t have crossed your mind to get handcuffed to your partner for 123 days. But that’s exactly what happened to this Ukrainian couple named Viktoria Pustovitova and Alexander Kudlay.
When Pustovitova told Kudlay that she wanted to break up with him, that’s when he came up with the idea of placing a handcuff on each other’s wrists. This so-called experiment started on Valentine’s day, as per Rappler.
Kudlay said, ‘We used to break up once or twice a week. When during another fight Vika once again said that we had to break up, I replied: ‘Then I will attach you to myself.”
Pustovitova wasn’t on board with the idea at first, but she eventually agreed. She shared, ‘I decided it will be an interesting experience for me, that it will bring into my life new bright emotions which I did not experience before.’
After nearly three months, the couple decided to take off their shackles through a ceremony that was aired on national television, as per the New York Post. Ukrainian records chief Vitaly Zorin was present to supervise them, and their experiment even led to a world record for the longest time that a couple has ever spent being chained together.
Pustovitova screamed, ‘Hooray!’ after the chain was cut. She also said, ‘I want to live my own independent life, and grow as an independent person.’
‘Difficulties are snowballing… As soon as we find one plus in a situation, immediately there are two minuses,’ Kudlay admitted.
The former couple shared everything together – from bathroom breaks, grocery shopping, and cigarette breaks. The lack of privacy led to the downfall of their relationship and wedding plans.
While Pustovitova and Kudlay are separately living their lives, both of them plan to jointly auction off their handcuffs and donate a portion of their money to charity.
