Trese’s first 5 minutes features Kathryn Bernardo, Jollibee, and an Ifugao song

It really IS a Filipino series

ICYMI, Netflix just dropped the first 5 minutes of the highly-anticipated Trese, an animated series based on the award-winning comic book of the same name.

The clip mostly shows what we already know: Alexandra Trese is a detective of the occult, who resides in a version of Metro Manila that features creatures straight from PH folklore. An LRT train abruptly stops in the middle of the tracks (so a normal day in Manila, then?) and its passengers are subsequently slaughtered by demons.

But while it’s mostly a retread, the teaser does offer a couple of new things.

The visuals

Maybe it’s because we’re fresh from a binge-watch of Castlevania and Invincible fan in us, but we’re loving the gorgeous creature designs. They’re proof of the show’s willingness to showcase just how creepy Filipino mythical creatures can be.

The opening credits

Maybe it’s just us, but we got goosebumps from the intro. The black, white, and blood-red color scheme matches perfectly with the show’s occult vibes, and the song is the cherry on top.

We’re not exactly sure about the source of the song, as Netflix has yet to divulge details, but the comments say it’s an Ifugao song called Balluha’d Bayauhen.

The references

Apparently, it’s not really Manila if you don’t have billboards featuring Jollibee AND Kathryn Bernardo. The pair aren’t exactly referenced in name, but c’mon, who else could be in these silhouettes?

 

 

Trese drops on Netflix this June 11.
