You can now use your mobile to register to vote
When the long lines appear to be a hassle, along with the possibility of catching the virus, registering to vote can seem tedious. Providing a solution to the issue, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) announced an application that allows citizens to register by using their mobile phones.
On COMELEC’s official Twitter account, a press release stated the launch of their Mobile Registration App would be available on June 15 Tuesday. It also mentioned that the app would be accessible with any smartphone, even when used offline.

Commissioner Marlon Casquejo, who conceptualized the project, shared that the app’s creation is timely, given that there are mobility restrictions due to COVID-19. He said, ‘You will only need a smartphone to accomplish the form.’
‘This will save time, effort and money that will otherwise be spent on going to a computer shop to download and print the form, or getting the form at the local Comelec to fill it out manually,’ he continued.
The press release also contained the following steps on using the Mobile Registration Form App:
1. Open the mobile app, and tap “Get Started.”
2. Select the desired type of application and tap “Proceed.”
3. Input all the necessary personal information.
4. Confirm your personal information by ticking the checkbox.
5. Tap “Generate QR Code” and “Save” to save it in your phone gallery.
6. Bring a valid ID upon visiting your local COMELEC office for your QR Code scanning.
While there are around 15 million eligible voters who are still unregistered, this app could hopefully be a way for those numbers to change. Download the Mobile Registration Form App when you click here.
