Google Doodle virtually celebrates Tokyo Olympics with this online game
In celebration of the opening of the Tokyo Olympics, Google joins the fun by launching an anime-inspired game called Doodle Champion Island Games. The immersive experience is their largest-ever Doodle game to date and can be accessed for free on its home page.
Players will take the role of a feline (c)athlete called Lucky the Calico Ninja Cat. There are four teams that you can, each represented by different colors and animals: Blue – Ushi (a cow), Red – Karasu (a crow), Yellow – Inari (a fox), and Green – Kappa (a Japanese turtle-like water spirit).
The RPG allows users to play seven mini-games such as table tennis, skateboarding, archery, rugby, artistic swimming, sport climbing, and marathon running. Lucky’s goal is to beat each sport’s “Legendary Champion” to collect all seven sacred scrolls and complete other hidden quests across the island. There will also be a global leaderboard that tracks the real-time scores of the four teams.
While Japanese animation house Studio 4°C designed the game in 16-bit retro graphics, it also showed a prelude video of an anime version of Lucky and the other characters. The game launched on Google at 9 p.m. PT on July 22 (Thursday) and 12:00 a.m. ET on July 23 (Friday).
