LANY has also joined in the love for Hidilyn Diaz
The congratulatory posts keep storming into Hidiliyn Diaz’s life both offline and online. While local celebrities and politicians praised the weightlifter, international synth-pop band LANY also heard of the historic win. All three members took their individual messages on Instagram Stories.
LANY’s vocalist Paul Jason Klein posted a photo of Diaz during the Tokyo Olympics and paired it with a caption that says, ‘CONGRATS to @hidilyndiaz and the [Philippines] (who have been so unbelievable to my band) on ur first ever gold medal.’
The band’s drummer Jake Gross reposted a photo of the 30-year-old and calling her achievement as “history.” He also said in all caps, ‘MAHAL KITA SOBRA, PHILIPPINES!’
Meanwhile, keyboardist Charles Leslie Priest had a more straightforward post and tagged Diaz as he congratulated her. He also mentioned the fact that it’s the country’s first gold medal.
‘Our fans here are so, so incredible and so cool so it’s always an honour to come back,’ said Klein as he talked about the LANY’s PH supporters in an interview back in 2019. The band has always been vocal about their appreciation for their Filipino followers.
In the local scene, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray was one of the first ones who congratulated her on social media. Other artists such as Anne Curtis Smith, Erwan Heussaff, Bella Padilla, Maine Mendoza, and many others also expressed how they were in awe of Diaz’s triumph.
