Malacañang’s latest attempt at shade was met with receipts
The tea is hot
For better or worse, he/she said arguments nowadays are settled with scalding hot receipts. The juiciest of Twitter threads are born from these things. Apparently, government officials aren’t exempt from truth bombs from time to time.
ICYMI, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque faulted Vice President Leni Robredo over her supposed decision to ditch a Cabinet post in favor of a leadership role in the opposition. Roque went on to describe her as a palamuti (ornament) during the last five years.
Roque made his comments when Robredo assured that Duterte will not have the same treatment she received should she become president and Duterte as her VP in 2022.
Robredo was named the chairperson of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) in 2016, but resigned after the administration barred her from attending Cabinet meetings. Robredo said the exclusion made it ‘impossible’ for her to perform her duties, leaving the post after five months.
At the time, Barry Gutierrez, Robredo’s spokesperson, presented proof of the restriction on his Facebook. The photo featured a text from Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr. Five years later, Gutierrez unearthed the same photo to remind Malacañang of what really went down.

Robredo’s exclusion from the Cabinet was not the first sign of hostility. In 2019, the VP was also fired as co-chairperson of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) after only 19 days.
Duterte criticized Robredo’s alleged lack of plans and programs during her tenure, while the opposition cited the lack of trust and cooperation from the administration.
