Senator Leila De Lima will run for 2022 elections behind bars

It has been over four years since Senator Leila De Lima was detained for drug-related charges, which she claims to be fabricated. Despite being behind bars, the senator announced on Wednesday that she would run for reelection during the 2022 national polls.

De Lima directed a letter to President Rodrigo Duterte prior to his last State of the Nation Address. It contains her remarks about his failure to fulfill all of his campaign promises on illegal drugs, corruption, the economy, and the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

‘Tatakbo akong muli. Hindi ako susuko. Tuloy ang laban.’

‘Sisingilin ka namin sa anim na taon na pambabalasubas mo sa aming bansa,’ she pointed out.

De Lima was acquitted in one of her three conspiracies to commit illegal drug trading cases and remains on trial for the two others. Even while in jail, she has been a constant critic of Durerte. She said on her website, ‘Hindi mo naman talaga ako nawasak…
