Where to ‘let go’ of things that you don’t need anymore
People often associate moving on as an action that comes after a breakup or anything that involves feelings. They say it even goes hand in hand with letting go as an assurance that you aren’t hung up over someone anymore. However, moving on may simply suggest that you’re just letting go of things that are no longer beneficial.
Moving on can signify letting go of an outdated fashion trend and trying out new clothes. It can even indicate that you’re doing a mini-renovation of your space by getting rid of a few pieces of furniture. On that note, have a double-take on a few things below that you can consider parting ways with.
HAIR
Cutting your hair after a breakup is a tale as old as time. It’s what movies made you believe as the I’m-Completely-Over-You type of move. Apart from posting pics on the gram for your ex to see your new hairdo, consider donating the inches you chopped off as well.
Hair for Hope is an advocacy of HEADS by Volu-Med Manila and The European Hair Factory, Inc. They partnered with The Cancer Center of Makati Medical Center and other organizations to provide free wigs to beneficiaries. For more details on how to donate hair, check these guidelines that can be seen on their Facebook page.
Strand Up for Cancer is an MDYMCA Youth Club-sponsored project that allows people to help financially disadvantaged women who suffer from long-term hair loss due to chemotherapy. They also posted easy steps to follow for those who want to share their locks.
CLOTHES AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS
After trying the KonMari Method and disposing of items that don’t spark joy, you can donate them to Goodwill Industries of the Philippines. It’s an NGO charity organization that accepts useful household items, clothes, shoes, books, and the like. Your donated items will be sold in their thrift shop, and the profit will benefit persons with disabilities (PWDs) and other disadvantaged people through skill empowerment.
After booking a schedule for the pick-up of your donation online, volunteers from the org will get it right from your doorstep for free.
PET SUPPLIES

While humans can lend a hand in times of trouble, your furbabies can lend a paw to some animals in need. Maybe they have some spare treats to offer?
CARA Welfare Philippines was founded by a dedicated group of animal lovers who aims to help the plight of animals in the Philippines. They accept donations like cat food, dog food, and medication such as Advocate (Bayer Health Care), Frontline Plus, Ivermectin (Merial), Revolution (Pfizer), and Biomectin. For more details, head on to their official website.
The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the humane treatment of all animals. They posted a separate donation wishlist for cats and dogs and another for the shelter specifically. Read more about it when you click here. The org doesn’t check messages of their social media channels, but you can email them directly for inquiries at philpaws@yahoo.com.
BOOKS
Share those great stories from books that you once enjoyed reading to Books for a Cause (BFAC). They set up small libraries for children, public schools, and communities in the country. They aim to provide knowledge to every Filipino and develop literacy through continuous learning. BFAC accepts both new and second-hand books, dictionaries, Bibles, and the like.
Visit their Facebook and Instagram pages for more details on the contact information.
OLD TOYS
Do you remember that scene from Toy Story 3 when Andy said goodbye to his toys? You will eventually outgrow your childhood trinkets as well. The Philippine Toy Library can be the new home of the spare toys you want to give. The non-profit organization advocates for children’s right to play regardless of their personal and socio-economic circumstances. They also transform areas for kids from marginalized communities for them to have a safe place to play.
Learn how you can donate books and toys by checking out their website for more information.
PLASTIC WASTE
The amount of plastic you consume from all the online delivery parcels, bottles of iced coffee, and even face shields can be recycled by The Plastic Flamingo. The social enterprise aims to tackle marine plastic pollution in the country. Check out their Instagram highlights to see drop-off points and FAQs on what items they accept.
Green Antz Builders is another waste management company where you can donate plastic waste. They integrate eco-friendly methods and green technologies into their products and services. They regularly update their Facebook and Instagram pages on their latest drop-off points.
BROWN PAPER BAGS

Your items from the grocery, bookstore, and hardware shops all have one thing in common – it was probably wrapped in a brown paper bag. Instead of throwing these bags away, you can give everything to Silent Beads. The eco-friendly organization recycles paper bags to make plantable business cards, gift tags, invitations, product labels, souvenirs, and the like.

YOUR EX
Bet you didn’t see this one coming. How does one even let go of unwanted memories about their exes? The hard truth is that you can’t completely forget — but you can try moving on. The whole process can be fun when you focus on yourself again by working out, seeking a new hobby, and hey, even try talking to someone new.
But if you’re looking for a more straightforward sign, this is it: Get over your ex (and maybe donate while you’re at it!)
