Comelec says there are 61M registered voters, but 12M remain unregistered
37 days. Those are the remaining number of days for Filipinos to register to vote, as of writing. While there are recent reports on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) claims that it surpassed its expected number of registered voters, there are still millions of other eligible applicants.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez tweeted on Monday that the poll body set its expectation at 59 million. He said, ‘We blew past 60 million, and we’re now – based on partial reports – at 61.06 million registered voters.’
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the estimated number of qualified voters by the 2022 elections is 73 million. Given the recent announcement of Comelec, there are around 12 million Filipinos who are left unregistered.
We set the expectation at 59 million. We blew past 60 million, and we're now – based on partial reports – at 61.06 million registered voters. #CountOnFilipinos #StandAndBeCounted #MagparehistroKa

Lawmakers and youth groups requested to extend the voter registration period due to the recent lockdowns, but their appeal was denied last week. Comelec declared that the deadline remains on September 30.
‘The Commission is concerned that if we delay the end of voter registration, it will also cost corresponding delays in all other preparatory activities, especially those that depend on the finalization of the list of voters,’ Jimenez explained.
However, the registration hours were extended. Starting on Monday, applicants will be accommodated 8 am – 7 pm from Mondays to Fridays, and 8 am – 5 pm on Saturdays and holidays.
Applicants can check how to register with their mobile phones or read this straightforward guide. Comelec also posted a list of Ayala Malls where registrants can sign-up in person. Meanwhile, delisted voters or those who failed to vote for two consecutive elections could also reactivate their status online. On the other hand, Filipinos abroad can also register via Comelec’s Office for Overseas Voting (OFOV) online.
