PH non-medalists from Tokyo Games will receive P500k, as they should
All the Filipino athletes who represented the Philippines for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics went through years of sacrifice and training. Whether or not they brought home a medal, their efforts are nowhere near discredited. In fact, all the non-medalists who competed will receive a cash bonus.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino partnered with Manny Pangilinan’s MVP Sports Foundation (MVPSF) to hand out the reward to Team Philippines. Tolentino said on Thursday, ‘The non-medalists in the Tokyo Olympics will receive incentives of P500,000 each.’
As of writing, only a few more PH bets are still running for the quadrennial event, namely Eumir Felix Marcial and Carlo Paalam for boxing, and golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Yuka Saso.

The following athletes who finished the Tokyo Games without a medal, but proudly represented the country include Cris Nievarez (rowing), Kurt Barbosa (taekwondo), Margielyn Didal (skateboarding), Jayson Valdez (shooting), Carlos Yulo (gymnastics), Irish Magno (boxing), Kiyomi Watanabe (judo), Elreen Ando (weightlifting), Juvic Pagunsan (golf), EJ Obiena (pole vault), Kristina Knott (200m run), and Remedy Rule and Luke Gebbie (swimming).
‘Everyone on Team Philippines in these ‘Golden Olympics’ deserves all the praises, and in this case, incentives, they need,’ Tolentino said. ‘Qualifying for the Olympics is already that difficult, what more competing in the Games themselves.’
