There’s a petition for Yu-Gi-Oh! to be an Olympic sport
The 2020 Tokyo Games will be coming to an end this weekend. While there are still endless possibilities of victories and entertaining feats, YouTube video creator Xiran Jay Zhao launched her own last-minute stunt. She posted an online petition to make the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game an official Olympic sport.
The petition is labeled as Make Yugioh an Olympic sport. The description states that it is “an absolute injustice that the game of [Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Trading Card Game] is not a legitimate sport in the Olympics.” It then proceeds to explain how the game is played.
Even without any assurance that her request will be noticed, Zhao also addressed it to the International Olympic Committee. She also created it for them to “apologize to Japan for making them go through with the 2020 Tokyo games.”

Shortly after Zhao created the petition, she posted screenshots that showed how her appeal has spread throughout the internet. It seems like there are many people online who want to see this card game during the next Olympic event.
For those who want to flex their most powerful Yu-Gi-Oh! card and be possibly part of an Olympic duel, you can sign the petition at change.org. It has over 11,000 signatures as of writing.
However, there’s an existing Yu-Gi-Oh! event that you can join even if Zhao’s request won’t push through. Japanese entertainment company Konami holds an annual Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship, which calls duelists from around the world to compete against each other.
