These Filipino chefs on Instagram will bring out the foodie in you

There are many interesting things that people didn’t expect to pick up over the course of the pandemic. It ranges from working out or doing yoga, launching an online business, and being a plant parent. But also one of the easiest hobbies were cooking and baking – lest you forget, dalgona coffee and sushi bake trended for quite a while.

Now that everyone is stuck in another lockdown, maybe tapping into the food connoisseur in you once again wouldn’t be such a bad idea. In fact, there’s are a lot of ways to explore hacks and inspiration on the internet. But to keep things more simple, below are chefs who share different recipes and cooking tips that you can easily see on their Instagram.

Stepping into the page of Gerick Manalo, you’d think that he’s your usual content creator, but he is also a promising up-and-coming chef. His content involves food photography tips, ASMR cooking, reviewing kitchen appliances, and creating easy-to-follow treats like mango graham ice cream.

Manalo took up Culinary Arts in college and even flew to New York to study the art of food styling. He also made it to True ID Philippines, where he hosted a cooking show series.

Happy Ongpauco-Tiu

Her name probably rings a bell, and yes, she’s related to Heart Evangelista. While her cousin reigns in the fashion industry, Happy Ongpauco-Tiu is in a whole other world that mainly involves food. She’s the brains behind Happy Concept Group, which holds several restaurant chains in the country.

This chef posts more boujee methods among everyone on the list – a spicy crab recipe, lechon macau, milk braised pork loin, and a lot more. But she occasionally posts easier ones like homemade chicken nuggets and tuna tacos. Apart from posting how-to-cook videos, she also shares classic tablescape ideas to match your future dishes.

There’s no denying that JP Anglo’s dishes would make you drool. ICYDK, he owns a restaurant called Sarsa Kitchen, which serves modern Negros cuisines. If you’re aiming to craft dishes the same way, he has posts recipes that people can follow regardless of their cooking skills.

To make your quarantine cooking hobby easier, Anglo’s videos show convenient recipes that you can whip up in your kitchen like chicken pesto pasta, salt & pepper tofu, and he also shared how to cook adobo using a rice cooker.

Rosebud Benitez-Velasco

If there’s one thing that this woman is good at, wait scratch that, if there are two things that she’s good at, it’s being a mom and a chef. Rosebud Benitez-Velasco, a.k.a. the chef mom, as her followers know her, has been sharing mouth-watering recipes that you can take note of.

Her Instagram page contains mostly the aftermath of her creations. But if you head over to her YouTube account, there are endless recipes on several cuisines – from pork sinigang, to sweet and spicy ribs, and also halo-halo.

Apart from being a chef, JR Royol is proud to be a Bicolano-Igorot farmer. You’ll see most of the food he makes while catching a glimpse of his life through the squares on his Instagram profile.

Earlier this year, Royol had the chance to host GMA Life TV’s show titled Farm to Table, where he showcased variations of local dishes. Before he cooks, he takes his viewers with him as he picks fresh produce. You’ll then see the process of making beef tapang barako, ginataang suso at pako, and two-ingredient macapuno, among many others.
