RuPaul is Emmys most-awarded Black artist of all time

After taking home 11 record-breaking wins, host and producer RuPaul earned the title of being the most-awarded person of color in Emmys history.

The show RuPaul’s Drag Race won an accolade for Outstanding Competition Program on Sunday. The other nominees in the category included other well-known series like NBC’s The Voice, Netflix’s Nailed It!, CBS’ The Amazing Race, and Bravo’s Top Chef.

During his acceptance speech, RuPaul dedicated the award to the Academy, people at World of Wonder, and Viacom-CBS. He also said, ‘Thanks to all of our lovely children on our show from around the world. You know, they are so gracious to tell their stories of courage and how to navigate this difficult life, even more difficult today. This is for you.’

‘For you kids out there watching, you have a tribe that is waiting for you,’ he continued. ‘We are waiting for you, baby. Come home to Mama Ru!’

RuPaul also brought home an award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program during last weekend‘s Creative Arts Emmys. This marked the drag icon’s sixth consecutive win in the said category. He also won the Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program for being the executive producer of the Drag Race companion RuPaul’s Drag Race Untucked.

The Drag Race global franchise has launched several international iterations over the years including the Philippines, which called for auditions last month. The WOW co-founders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey explained that they’re excited to introduce dazzling queens of the country to viewers from all around the world.
