PH is Asia’s leading beach and dive destination
Different destinations in the Philippines have received global recognition this year. Palawan was ranked as the second best island in the world, while TIME Magazine named Siargao as one of the world’s greatest places. The country yet again received awards as Asia’s leading beach and dive destination at the 2021 World Travel Awards (WTA).
This is the country’s fifth time to win Asia’s Leading Beach Destination Award, and its third consecutive win to land Asia’s Leading Dive Destination Award since 2019. According to Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, the accolades increase the department’s efforts to keep the Philippines a “top-of-mind” destination for foreign tourists.
‘We share this recognition with our tourism stakeholders, local government units, partner agencies, and all Filipinos who have been helping us promote our country’s attractions, products, and culture,’ she said on Tuesday.

A few of the top beach locations in the country like Boracay, Siargao, El Nido, and Amanpulo have already opened their doors to local tourists. At the same time, these destinations are set to welcome foreign travelers once international borders reopen.
DOT already enhanced the top locations when it comes to dive cicurits, namely the Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park (Palawan), Anilao (Batangas), Malapascua and Moalboal (Cebu) , Balicasag, Panglao and Anda (Bohol), and Puerto Galera (Oriental Mindoro). Puyat also explained the Department has been identifying potential destinations that could possibly be developed for dive tourism.
The World Travel Awards was founded in 1993 to “acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries.” WTA brand is acknowledged globally as the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence.
