Train to Busan’s remake will apparently be called ‘Last Train to New York’

There have been a couple of Korean titles that were adapted to American media like The Good Doctor and the Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock-led movie The Lake House. But another blockbuster Train To Busan is set to get a U.S. remake and reports claim that it will be titled Last Train to New York.

According to Deadline, Indonesian director Timo Tjahjanto will direct the remake of the hit zombie film that will be developed by New Line Cinema. Joining him to help in production assistance and screenplay writing are Gary Dauberman and James Wan, who is also the creator of The Conjuring universe, Saw saga, and the Insidious chapters.

While there aren’t any further details regarding the New York-based movie, the title speaks for itself. The subways of the so-called concrete jungle would possibly be invaded by zombies. However, when The Korean Times first reported the news, fans of the OG Korean film weren’t pleased and said the U.S. version “will strip it of the things that made it special”.

Train to Busan premiered in 2016 and it follows the story of a mysterious viral outbreak, which placed Korea in a state of emergency. Many individuals suddenly turned into zombies and passengers on the train from Seoul to Busan try to survive. But beyond the horrors, the movie also served as a social commentary on social class and inequality.

Several users on Twitter already shared their thoughts on the Last Train to New York. Most tweets are filled with memes, jokingly showing what the film would look like. Others are already judging it based on the title and questioning the new location.
