2021’s popular dog names include ‘Covid’, ‘Zoom’, and more
A few weeks ago, a study named the Filipinos as the ultimate pet parents during the pandemic. But have you wondered what names did they ended up giving their fur babies? Pet care company Rover revealed a list of popular dog names in 2021 and revealed that some owners name their dogs after Miss ‘Rona, such as ‘Fauci’, ‘Covid’, and ‘Zoom.’
The website also mentioned honorable pandemic-inspired names such as ‘Pfizer’, ‘Vax’, and ‘Dolly Parton.’ Speaking with CNN, Rover’s celebrity dog trainer Nicole Ellis said that pet owners preferred these names since it reminds them of the “unprecedented time” when they became closer to their pets.
She said, ‘That’s the time we can look back and be like, ‘A puppy (with a) Covid-related name, did you get him during Covid?’ and now we have a great conversation starter.’
Meanwhile, Rover’s brand marketing director Kate Jaffe explained that some people pick a name that reflects on their pet’s “quirky personality”.
She explained, ‘But at the end of the day, what they’re really trying to do is honor the relationship they have with their pet and give them a name that showcases their pet’s personality and also shines a little bit of light on their own personality.’
