This is RuPaul’s Drag Race’s first-ever straight male queen
If you missed all the fabulous looks, the thrilling drama, and watching new queens compete, then RuPaul’s Drag Race 14th season is just about a month away. But what got people curious about this run is that the show will include its first straight cisgender male queen.
The “Drag Race” franchise continues to grow its vision on what makes someone a drag queen. For the upcoming season, the inclusion of Maddy Morphosis (who uses she/her pronouns when in drag) is another first, given that she doesn’t identify as someone from the LGBTQ+ community.
The reality competition show has been celebrated for bringing queer identities into a bigger platform, so Maddy’s entrance gave audiences a mixed reaction. Case in point: check her the replies on RPDR’s announcement post. Maddy then recently posted a statement that might answer some people’s questions.

Maddy explained that she entered the drag scene shortly after high school and considered it as a “safe space” to explore her identity. She said, ‘But doing drag the past 5 years has given me even more opportunities to further explore my own identity, and also understand more about others’.
‘The concepts of “masculine” and “feminine” are arbitrary and made up,’ she continued. ‘And the rigid line drawn between them just feeds the stigma of men who embrace femininity, and perpetuates the cycle of toxic-masculinity.
She emphasized, ‘If there’s a message that I hope to convey to people, it’s that you don’t have inhabit the box society puts you in just to be comfortable in your own sexuality.’

Drag Race season 13’s Gottmik was the first trans male contestant who identifies as pansexual. Recently, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars‘ winner Kylie Sonique Love is the first out trans woman to win in U.S. franchise history.
RuPaul’s Drag Race season 14 will premiere on VH1 on January 7, 2022. You can catch Maddy Morphosis along with 13 other contestants as they compete to be America’s next drag superstar and win the cash prize worth $100,000 (approx. P5,034,400).
