Paramore is making a new album and it isn’t a ‘comeback emo record’

It has been almost five years since Paramore released their last album After Laughter. Lead vocalist Hayley Williams revealed in an email interview with Rolling Stone on Jan. 11 that the band is back together and finally working on their sixth record.

Williams mentioned that this is the first time – together with Taylor York and Zac Farro – that the band started and finished creating a record as a trio. She shared, ‘We wrote and tracked something we loved and it actually surprised us.’

‘We kept joking it was all downhill from that point, but thank God we’ve been surprised a lot throughout this whole thing,’ Williams continued. ‘I’m always waiting for the moment for us to know we’re onto something new and we’re not just rehashing the same shit.’

While the upcoming album remains untitled and has no release date yet, William said in the interview how she and York were reminiscing on some of their earliest influences, but she also noted that it doesn’t mean that they’re plotting a “comeback ’emo record.”

Williams also shared a more few hints on what fans can expect and explained, ‘The music we were first excited by wasn’t exactly the kind of music we went on to make.’

‘Our output has always been all over the place and with this project, it’s not that different,’ she continued. ‘We’re still in the thick of it but some things have remained consistent from the start. 1) More emphasis back on the guitar, and 2) Zac should go as ‘Animal’ as he wants with drum takes.’

Williams also said how the band attempted to land a collab with SZA, ‘I’ve been trying to get SZA to come hang with us ’cause I want to be friends in real life but we leave the studio to eat and sleep and she’s still carpe-ing the diem.’

The band reconnected again at a Nashville studio a few months ago and relocated to California. Since the group is still in the earlier stages of completing their album, you never know what to expect – there might actually be a Paramore feat. SZA collab. *fingers crossed*
