Get ready to scroll through 10-minute TikTok videos
Remember when TikTok extended its video time to three minutes last July? Well, the platform recently increased it again, and this time you’ll land on 10-minute clips. The new update is set to roll out globally.
According to The Verge, a TikTok spokesperson said they hope that the new maximum video length would “unleash even more creative possibilities for our creators around the world”. The statement added, ‘We’re always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience.’
Meanwhile, social media analyst Matt Navarra posted on Twitter a TikTok notification, which showed that users can now upload longer videos. The prompt also said that a user must be using the latest version of the app or web browser to access the new feature.

In an interview with The Verge, Navarra explained that longer-form content is “easier to monetize and keeps people on [the] platform longer.” He added that TikTok now has to strategize how to position and present these videos on its platform.
‘They could do with a dedicated home for longer-form content as [it] doesn’t sit so well in the vertical feed with shorter stuff people are used to whizzing through at speed,‘ Navarra suggested.
Following the update, will people still consider TikTok a short-form video platform? Almost every user has been used to seeing short-lived videos that entertain them. But the addition of 10-minute videos will probably benefit creators since it can be a new way to monetize content and work in ads.
