Swipe right on personality and not looks on Tinder soon

Tinder just launched a new feature following the release of Netflix’s The Tinder Swindler, which presents a con man who poses to be a son of a wealthy diamond mogul. If you’re worried about getting scammed like the women in the documentary, then the app’s latest Blind Date option might help you out.

According to the platform’s newsroom, the feature is inspired by the OG way to meet new people. It will set aside photos that show off where someone has traveled, or what car they own. Instead, users will charm their way to potential matches’ hearts by using their personality.

If you’re wondering how it works, users will answer a string of icebreaker questions and be paired based on commonalities. Then they’ll enter a timed chat, where they answer other prompts like, “It’s OK to wear a shirt ____ times without washing it” and “I put ketchup on____.”

When the timer ends, users can decide if they want to like the profile of who they’re in a chat with. It will then be revealed if they’re a match, or if they choose to pull an Ariana Grande thank-you-next type of move.

The Blind Date feature is currently available in the US, but Tinder assured online dating hopefuls that it will roll out globally in the coming weeks. Once the feature arrives in the Philippines, it can be seen under Explore.

Kyle Miller, VP of Product Innovation said, ‘There’s something really special about letting conversation introduce someone’s personality, without the preconceptions that can be made from photos. The new Blind Date experience brings a surprisingly fun, banter-based way to interact and create connections that’s all new to Tinder.’
