The Internet sees Senator Risa as the real life “Tumindig” artwork

The last man standing is a woman. That still proves to be true with Senator Risa Hontiveros.

Yesterday, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr had his first SONA at the Batasan Pambansa. Among his dominant key points was his call to congress to pass a law that would reinstate the ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Crops) for senior high school students.

The president also resorted to code-switching throughout his address. Talking about heavier topics such as Economics in English and codeswitching to Filipino when it comes to populist topics that the mass can more easily relate to, like farmer assistance and OFW. 19 bills were also named as a priority by Marcos.

All but one of the attendees was seen applauding Marcos during his introduction. One of the two only opposition members, Senator Risa Hontiveros, got the internet’s attention with her stand.

Tumindig.

As it seems, the internet found representation through the senator’s simple yet impactful action truly left its mark, standing not just for herself but for the whole opposition.

The internet then likened her stance to the Tumindig artwork started by Tarantadong Kalbo last year.

Agree to disagree

At the end of Marcos’ first SONA, Senator Hontiveros said through interviews that she supports some of the points tackled by the president, like his support for solo parents and the inclusion of renewable energy.

However, she hoped that Marcos would have mention his anti-corruption measures. “Sana may anti-corruption atsaka yung concern para sa mga iba pang issue tungkol sa governance at saka demokrasya.”
