A story about love in a time of uncertainty – ‘Mula sa Buwan’ takes the stage

Lilipad na!

After the two-year hiatus of live shows and face-to-face events, theaters reopen with a bang with Mula sa Buwan.

Mula sa Buwan 2022 will have its run at the new Samsung Circuit Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati from August 26 to September 11, 2022.

The play is based on Fransico “Soc” Rodriguez’s Filipino translation of the French classic Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand.

Set in Manila in the 1940s, the original Filipino sarsuwela-esque musical by director-playwright Pat Valera tackles love in the midst of a war. The story features characters Cyrano, an ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) cadet, and his blushing colegiala Roxanne whom his best friend, Christian, also falls in love with.

The actors joining this year’s run were introduced through a performance of Matatapos Din.

Myke Salomon, who previously had the role of Christian in the 2018 run, is rejoining the cast as this year’s Cyrano. Ang Huling El Bimbo‘s Gab Pangilinan is also joining the cast as Roxane. Markki Stroem, on the other hand, is the new Christian.

Other members joining the lineup are Phi Palmos as Rosanna, Jon Abella as Tato, MC dela Cruz as Maximo, and Jillian Ita-as as Gabriel.

Originally staged in 2010, the play’s original title was Cyrano: Isang Sarsuwela and had its run at the University of Asia and the Pacific. A collaboration of Valera and featuring original music by William Elvin Manzano turned the play into a bigger musical.

Previously, Mula sa Buwan had staged at the Ateneo de Manila University’s Henry Lee Erwin Theater in 2016 and 2017 and Hyundai Hall in 2018.
