5 and 8 year old champs make us question our childhood

New Filipino talent arises in the form of these two young international champions

Aleia Aielle Aguilar and Bince Rafael Operiano are international champions at the young ages of 5 and 9

Five-year-old Aleia Aielle Aguilar emerged as the big winner of the 2022 Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival as she won the 16kg-B Kids 1 Girls White Belt in the United Arab Emirates.

The country’s youngest jiu-jitsu world champion is the daughter of the founding father of Philippine mixed martial arts, Alvin Aguilar, and former Jiu-Jitsu world champion Maybelline Masuda, also the Philippines’ first Gold medalist in the Asian Beach Games.

Don’t be fooled by her charming smile because Aleia dominated the semifinals with a whopping 6-0 against UAE’s Maria El Halabi.

Surely, Aleia still has a very bright future ahead of her!

Rising as a Chess champion in Bangkok, Thailand is Bince Rafael Operiano hailing from Oas, Albay. The nine-year-old recently took home the Gold medal at the 6th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship.

Bince won four medals and a trophy in the Under 10 Category after edging out the 20 other players from different countries. Described as the next chess grandmaster, Bince first showed potential pre-pandemic after winning his hometown’s National Age Chess Group Kiddie tournament.

However, the journey to the championship in Thailand was bumpy for Bince.

Struggling to secure funds for the trip, Bince had to stay three nights at the airport with his father, Mr. Ben Operiano as they waited for the sponsorship for the tickets.

Bince had to brave the first few days of the competition alone as he had to fly to the host country first. According to a Facebook post made by Cong. Fernando Cabredo of Albay’s 3rd District, the other parents at the venue saw Bince crying missing the company of his father.

His father fortunately was able to make it to the next games where Bince came out triumphantly.

The young chess prodigy is set to be conferred the National Master title when he turns 10!

Here’s to a fruitful Chess career for Bince!

Congratulations to the two young winners!
