John Denver is trending in South Korea

The award-winning film is the first Filipino movie to have a wide release across the country

After the movie’s feature in the 24th Busan International Film Festival, the 2019 Cinemalaya Best Picture ‘John Denver Trending’ is once again bound for South Korea.

The movie will be screened in CGV, Lotte Cinema, and Megabox theatres across major Korean cities by November 23.

‘John Denver Trending’ follows 14-year-old John Denver who gains overnight internet fame but for the wrong reason. After being accused of stealing a classmate’s iPad caught on video, he gets canceled and cyberbullied.

The movie shares the message of how detrimental social media can be, especially to the less fortunate. Jansen Magpusao who won the Best Actor Award at Cinemalaya 2019 portrays the titular character.

The film also stars Meryll Soriano and is written and directed by Arden Rod Condez who took to Twitter to share his sentiment about the film’s South Korean screenings.
