Why GMA and ABS-CBN’s new drama is a breakthrough for Philippine TV

Starring Jodi Sta. Maria, Richard Yap, Joshua Garcia, and Gabbi Garcia, the project is a collaboration between GMA, ABS-CBN, and Viu

This project is truly the first time on Philippine TV and hopefully, won’t be the last!

For years, most celebrities in the country have been known to be associated with the networks they are signed to. Marian Rivera will consistently be recognized as a Kapuso star, while Kim Chiu is a certified Kapamilya. However, all borders have been let down in this newest drama offered by the two mega networks in the country.

‘Unbreak My Heart’ made waves yesterday for the historic milestone it set for Philippine TV. For the first time, GMA and ABS-CBN Entertainment with Viu and Dreamscape, pioneers a breakthrough collaboration that the Internet was so ecstatic for.

The upcoming drama stars some of the biggest Kapuso and Kapamilya stars such as Eula Valdes, Nikki Valdez, Laurice Guillen, Maey Bautista, with GMA Sparkle artist Will Ashley and one of Star Magic’s rising stars Bianca De Vera. The setting of the 2023 show will be at Switzerland.

Directed by Emmanuel Quindo Palo and Dolly Dulu, the show will also be made available to watch in 15 countries through Viu’s platform.

Many hope this would only be the start of many more collaborations through the years as both networks need each other to produce even more quality content.

The Internet shared how the networks working together is indeed a beautiful thing.

There were also humorous tweets about lead stars Joshua Garcia and Gabbi Garcia as the two share the same surname and are suspected to be a pair in the show.

However, many of Gabbi’s fans clarified the actress’ real surname, sharing that Garcia is only her stage name, so the two aren’t related.

Not only is it refreshing to see the two giant networks work together, but this breakthrough will provide so much more opportunity for Filipino talent as they will not only be limited to working within the stations they are accustomed to.

Changes are slowly but surely happening to further elevate Philippine TV and give more chances for Filipino creatives to showcase their talent
