What is a ‘sub-unit’ and why was it trending?

Sub-unit trended yesterday and it is not because of what you might have thought

It actually trended because of a mispronunciation that the Internet could not help but LOL at.

During yesterday’s Rise and Shine Pilipinas broadcast, news reporter Dianne Medina shared the announcement of TWICE’s J-line sub-unit MISAMO. However, “sub-unit” wasn’t part of the Philippines’ trend list yesterday because of Mina, Sana, and Momo but because of Dianne’s cute mistake on television.

Seemingly because of a lack of a dash on the teleprompter, Dianne pronounced sub-unit as subunit (soobunit), which the Internet thought was funny.

However, the PTV4 anchor was quick to address the mispronunciation through a re-shoot of the news report.

The Internet was also supportive of Dianne saying that everybody makes mistakes and that next time, other team members like the news writers should be more alert especially since the news reporting was done live.
