2020 is becoming what we thought 2012 would be

‘Grabe, 2020’

It’s safe to say that 2020 hasn’t been the best year for everyone.

Despite the past years having their share of sucky moments, one can’t deny that a literal pandemic, UFO sightings, Anti-Terror Law, violent riots, and now a devastating explosion in Lebanon makes for apocalyptic dread.

ICYDK, 70 people were killed and over 40,000 people were injured in Beirut, Lebanon earlier today after two giant explosions literally rocked the country’s capital.

Seriously, the video is enough to send chills down your spine.

The source of the blasts remains unconfirmed, but reports are pointing to confiscated explosives stored at the Beirut port where the explosions took place.

Aside from COVID-19 patients, hospitals in Beirut are scrambling to tend to the thousands of affected citizens. Numerous countries are now lending a hand in Lebanon’s much-needed recovery efforts, such as France, Iran, and the US.

As the rest of the world tries to better their healthcare systems, PH’s isn’t getting any better, as PhilHealth apparently lost over PHP 15B in 2019 due to fraud. Legal officer Thorrsson Keith alleged that our local health insurer (where we send taxes every paycheck) handed the money to a ‘syndicate‘.

As if that’s not enough, the overwhelming deficits brought by the pandemic is also causing PhilHealth to faces collapse by the next year.

You’re saying without additional subsidy in 2021, PhilHealth will collapse?’ House Leader Frank Drilon had asked PhilHealth’s Nerissa Santiago.

‘Yes, sir.’

‘I am dumbfounded. I don’t know what question to ask next because of what I hear.’
