An honor

Acclaimed filmmaker Lav Diaz’ film ‘Lahi, Hayop’ is one of the entries gunning for the Venice International Film Festival’s (VIFF) Orrizonti section.

Diaz is competing with the likes of US’ Gia Coppola, China’s Jing Wang, Italy’s Uberto Pasolini, and more for the film festival’s award for the latest trends in international cinema.

Diaz won’t be in attendance to the festival happening this September 2 to 12, as it will serve as one of the first festival events to continue physical screenings.

In light of the pandemic, physical distancing, temperature checks, and the wearing of masks will be implemented.

Diaz is no stranger to the VIFF, as he’s been previously selected for 2007’s ‘Kagadanan sa Banwaan nang mga Engkanto’, 2008’s ‘Melancholia‘, and 2011’s ‘Siglo ng Pagluluwal’.

Meanwhile, Diaz has been other making rounds in the 2020 festival scene, as his 4-hrr drama ‘The Halt’ was also showcased during the Asian Film Festival held in Rome this July 30 to August 5.
