Lucifer can speak in many languages, including Tagalog
Once in a while, we like to put our #PinoyPride hats on and geek out whenever someone gives our culture a shoutout. Take for example the seventh episode of Lucifer’s fifth season, which sees Detective Chloe Decker and our beloved devil visiting a flower shop during a murder case.
The pair soon request to speak with the store owner, a Filipino grandma, only for her grandson to note that she doesn’t actually speak any English.
Still, it’s not a problem for Lucifer, as Detective Decker reveals that he can actually speak every language, which Lucifer then proves by asking ‘Nagsasalita ba siya ng Tagalog?’

Sure, he did say ‘nagsasalisa’ as opposed to ‘nagsasalita’, and the overall delivery could use some work, but it’s Lucifer Morningstar! Who cares? Apparently, the entire scene was a tribute by writer Julia Fontana, who named the flower shop after a Filipina who took care of her as a baby. So cool!
It could also be a nod to the show’s rabid Filipino fanbase, who has since freaked out over rumors that Season 6 could soon be a go.
Happy to read this! I named Jovita and her flower shop after the Filipina who looked after me when I was a baby. Taught me the word ‘candy’ (much to my Spanish mom’s chagrin and confusion) and instilled in me an undying love of white rice
