UP predicts we could actually flatten the curve by September

Fingers crossed

The University of the Philippines OCTA (UP OCTA) has shared a new COVID-19 prediction that’s actually giving us some semblance of hope.

Per team member Dr. David Guido, there’s a chance that the country may flatten the curve by late August or September if the strict quarantines in Metro Manila and nearby provinces continue.

However, Guido emphasized that the total flattening will only come if strict lockdown regulations continue – so no, we won’t be reaching New Zealand levels of gatherings and freedom anytime soon.

‘Kaya kailangan talagang continuous effort natin. Hindi tayo pwedeng magpabaya kasi pwedeng magka-surge ulit yan.’

UP’s prediction is a change from their previous forecast stating that we’re unlikely to flatten the curve by July. They also succesfully predicted that we’ll be reaching more than 140,000 cases by August.

Call it a shot in the dark or a some kind of grand miracle, but with almost 190,000 confirmed cases, 3,000 deaths, and 162 days in quarantine – we’re still holding onto hope here.
