Metro Manila is apparently losing PHP 18B every day

Presidential Spox Harry Roque revealed earlier today that Metro Manila can no longer afford to extend the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), as the closing down of establishments is costing Metro Manila to lose as much as PHP 18B every day.
‘Ang estimate nila ay hindi bababa sa P18 bilyon ang nawawala kada araw sa MECQ. Mas malaki po ang mawawala kung mag-e-ECQ.’
‘Hindi na po talaga kakayanin.’

To put that into perspective, it’s a few billion more than PhilHealth’s alleged fraud amount of PHP 15B, which could have already bought 11 million UP test kits, 1 million laptops for students, 10 million PPEs for frontliners, ayuda for 3 million families, and more.
Based on Roque’s estimation, the country has supposedly lost a total of 125B since the start of MECQ on August 4.
ICYDK, MECQ was implemented due to medical frontliners asking for a ‘timeout‘ due to the overwhelming amount of COVID-19 cases costing them to shut down to avoid overruns.
With PH sinking officially sinking into a recession due to the pandemic, this spells double trouble for our economy and COVID-19 cases.
