RIP to a real one: Kissanime, Kissmanga have officially shut down

Hug your weeaboo friend today, because popular manga and anime sites Kissanime and Kissmanga have been shut down.
The closure comes after Japan’s strict crackdown on pirated material, as the sites have long been the leading purveyors in pirated content for almost 10 years.
If you access the OG sites kissanime.ru and kissmanga.com, you’ll be met with a pretty somber sight, as the once lively animations are replaced by a single block of text over a plain white background.
‘All files are taken down by copyright owners. The site will be closed forever. Thank you for your supports.’
This wouldn’t be the first time that Japan’s strict piracy laws have affected the anime community, as manga site Manga Rock was also forced to delete all readable content earlier this year.
With Disney laying a much heavier hand on the ongoing piracy crackdowns, we’re likely to see more of our fave (illegal) sites reaching their end.
Although there’s are still tons of ‘Kissanmine‘ and ‘Kissmanga‘-named alternate sites, it’s recommended that we don’t trust them too quickly as they may be capitalizing off the two site’s demise and phishing for personal info.
We shouldn’t grieve for too long though, as Japan is set to gather over 3,000 anime series for free viewing on YouTube under the channel AnimeLog. The timing is actually uncanny, TBH.
