Social curses Duterte, trends #LetLeniLead after Metro Manila reverts to MECQ
ICYMI, Metro Manila, along with the provinces of Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal will be under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from August 4 to 18.
The decision comes following the plea of a ‘timeout’ from medical frontliners, who have strained under the increase of COVID-19 cases since the implementation of the general community quarantine (GCQ) on June 1.
Daily increases have been in the thousands, with August 2 recording the highest jump with 5,032. Overall, the Philippines has 103,185 cases, surpassing that of mainland China’s, the origin of the virus.
Under the MECQ, pvblic transportation will be limited. Trains (LRT-1, LRT-2, MRT-3), buses, jeepneys, taxis, and transport network vehicle services (TNVS) such as Grab are banned.
Tricycles are also included, but these are subject to the guidelines from both the Interior Department and local government units. Pvblic shuttles will remain operational, but only for frontliners.
As for private transportation, company shuttles are allowed with 50% capacity as well as personal vehicles for workers under permitted sectors.
As announced by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION (NCR), and the provinces of BULACAN, RIZAL,…

The shift gained reactions from socials, with the hashtags #LetLeniLead and #TanginaMoDuterte trending on Twitter. Much of the fury, it seems, is directed towards a statement made by Duterte towards the medical community.
While The President was initially sympathetic in tone as he recognized the months-long ‘bone-weary’ efforts against COVID-19, he later chastised the same group for pvblicly airing their grievances and calling for the timeout.
‘There is no need for you and for the guys, 1,000 of you, telling us what to do publicly. You could have just written us a letter. Lahat naman ng sinasabi ninyo sinusunod namin’, said Duterte during a live Malacañang briefing.
He also criticized calls for a ‘revolution’ and asked frontliners not to ‘demean’ the government, as he says that they are trying their best to assist during the pandemic.
There's really no point in being defensive when we see the incompetence every damn day. Duterte is clearly mentally unfit to lead. Step down and #LetLeniLead https://t.co/VHmXSOx3Bj

While our neighboring countries are going back to their normal lives, here we are going back to MECQ. All because of an incompetent, overconfident President & government. Then you hear this from Duterte? Nakakapagod nang magalit sa inutil na gobyerno! #LetLeniLead #DuterteResign https://t.co/ESrVJDjnZK

#LetLeniLead, not to completely make Duterte step down from his position (because that will only cause chaos) but to let her take an active role and listen to her suggestions for the COVID response.
Stop the incompetency, we need to make the next two weeks count.
