‘The Powerpuff Girls’ is getting a live-action series
Sugar, spice, and everything (hopefully) nice
Our childhoods are either going to get wrecked or honored as Cartoon Network’s The PowerPuff Girls is set to have its own live-action series, per Variety.
The excerpt reads:
‘In the updated version of the series, the titular superheroes are now disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?’
So far, details are pretty minimal, but we could hazard a guess at what the show could feel like. First, it’s dropping on the CW network in the US, home to shows like Riverdale, Gossip Girl, and The Vampire Diaries, so get ready for the usual YA drama.
The show will also be written by Diablo Cody, who headed the coming-of-age film Juno, and Heather Regnier, who worked on teen noir mystery drama, Veronica Mars.
We’re guessing there will be love triangles, existential crises, a ripped Professor Utonium, and other familiar ingredients to haul in its intended audience. It’ll be far from the light-hearted vibe of the original, but hey, we all have to grow up sometime apparently.
